BolderLife Festival: Julia, Would you introduce yourself, please?

Julia: Hi, my name is Julia Kay. I am a native of Boulder, CO and have been dancing for over 15 years. I have three brothers, two cats and one dog.

BolderLife Festival: Please introduce your dance group. What are you doing? Who are you? And what are your current projects?

Julia: My company is called Point Your Damn Toes. It is now in its second season with a total of 18 women ranging in age from 26 to 65. We strive to inspire the nontraditional dancer to reach beyond their own restricted perceptions. We believe dance and the art of performance can be done no matter what the age and ability. I have mothers, artists, therapists, doctors, teachers, graphic designers, writers, litigation paralegals and landscape designers all comeing together on the dance floor to express one single passion: DANCE.  We are now working on our second show that will be taken to the stage May 2014. Set in a 19th century brothel, this show explores issues of female sensuality and sexuality.

BolderLife Festival: What do you think about BolderLife’s mission and vision?

Julia: I think your mission and vision are great! I think a lot of people, including myself, live in a bubble of their own world. I’m not saying that’s a good or bad thing at all, but it’s good to pop the bubble sometimes and learn, grow and educate yourself in things you might not care or know about. BoulderLife sounds like that is exactly what they do… pop people’s bubbles.

BolderLife Festival: Do you have something in common with BolderLife Festival?

Julia: I push my dancers to dig deep and find the emotions that scare them. I push them to feel and dance through those emotions. I do this in hopes of pushing them to become stronger and more fearless of past or present memories. Perhaps this helps then live more boldly.

BolderLife Festival: What will we see in your show? What can we look forward to?

Julia: The show, Dreaming Life, has non-fictional situations that myself and my dancers have experienced. Such as drug addiction, sexual promiscuity, and feeling terrified about life and what it means. They are real and very emotional for us. This show was made not only to emotionally touch our audience and evoke feelings in them, but also for movement therapy for us to work through our feelings, memories and fears with story telling through dance. You can look forward to a kick ass show that will leave you feeling happy, sad and touched.

Thank you, Julia! We are looking forward to your show!

Dreaming Life

Dreaming Life is a full length dance performance where conscious, nonfictional situations and emotions are perceived through dreams and expressed through movement. The show will have three main dreamers that represent different subjects. Heather’s dreams are about her relationship with sex and past lovers. Courtney’s dreams are about the feeling of pure bliss, drugs, and the negative aftermath of what drugs do to you. Michelle’s dreams are about the awkward, dark and weak moments of life that everyone encounters now and again.
