Colorado Premiere: “The Healing Power of Art”

21 Nov

“The Healing Power of Art” is the name of great film we are proud to present at BolderLife Festival 2013  AND for the first time in Colorado!

“Art is the proper task of life”, once said by Friedrich Nietzsche. What kind of impact art can have furthermore in our lifes that tells us Filmmaker Mariah Dunn in her amazing short documentary “The Healing Power of Art.”

We are curious to learn what Producer and Director Mariah Dunn is saying about her short documentary.

BolderLife Festival:  Nice to meet you, Mariah! Would you please introduce yourself?

Mariah Dunn: I am an independent filmmaker and educator living in Greensboro, NC. Along with making my own documentary films I teach film and video production classes at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

BolderLife Festival:  What is your film about? How did you find the idea for this film? What is the message of the film?

Mariah: My film is about three families and their connection to the Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP). CHAP offers art programs for kids facing major challenges in their life. At CHAP kids can be themselves no matter what challenge they are facing.

BolderLife Festival: What do you think about BolderLife Festival? How does it feel to be a part of this event?

Mariah: When I first heart about the BolderLife Festival I knew it was the perfect fit for my film. Using art to start a discussion about a topic is a powerful tool and I am proud to be a part of a festival that works hard to start a conversation bout important topics.

BolderLife Festival:  What do you think about BolderLife’s  vision/mission statement?

Mariah: I think the mission of the festival is a fantastic mission. I am not only a filmmaker but a believer in the message of my film. It is so refreshing to have a festival that is so committed and has a similar goal in mind for the films that are screening. One of my main goals in screening my film is to share the message and to give others the chance to see how CHAP has affected the lives of the kids. I feel that this festival is really giving me the chance to share this message to an audience that cares.

BolderLife Festival: Do you live a bolder life? What do you personally think how to live a bolder life?

Mariah: Yes, I feel that I live a bolder life. I am conscious of my surroundings and that includes the people around me. As a teacher I practice accepting people for who they are and constantly work to nurture my students to become the people they want to be.

BolderLife Festival:  What would you say to the world:  Why should people come to the BolderLife Festival?

Mariah: Film festivals are a great experience because you get to meet the filmmakers and hear their thoughts on their work. This is especially important at the BolderLife Festival because you are meeting filmmakers that are sharing messages they are passionate about.

Thank you very much, Mariah!
