Charlie Dando likes being upside down and playing cards with the elderly, because it’s adorable when they cheat and and he likes the feeling of blood rushing to his head. That happens when he is upside down, not when playing cards. Charlie is a philanthropist, optimist, existentialist, who’s not lactose intolerant. Come dance.

Conversations with the Body
Adderly Bigelow

Open to all.
Using the principles of the Axis Syllabus-a movement discipline drawing from biomechanics, physiology and physics–we explore efficient and stabilizing pathways in the body.  Emphasis is placed on spinal articulation, sequential movement patters and the anatomy and relationship between the pelvis, torso and head. We start slowly, finding the pathways in our bodies, and eventually work our way towards dynamic and momentum based movement.  Open to all movers, these sessions are opportunities for you to come into honest conversation with your body.

Adderly Bigelow is a dancer and performer, with training in contemporary, modern dance, improvisation, contact improvisation and ballet. Adderly has been studying the Axis Syllabus with teachers Frey Faust and Kira Kirsch for 5 years.  She is currently a student of Traditional Eastern Arts and Performance at Naropa University and is a founding member of Language of Fish Collective Arts, who will be performing in the Exploratorium.

Tango Workshop with Dance of the Heart

Known internationally, Brian & Deb combine their passion for performing Argentine Tango music and dance with teaching under the company name “Dance of the Heart,” established in 1998. With many years of experience as teachers and performers, they distill the excitement, mystery, and magic of tango and convey the vibrancy, intensity, humor, and sensuality contained within the beautiful art-form.
Join their class,  8:45- 9:45p, with open dancing to follow until 10:45p.
This workshop will paired with feature documentary, Tango Your Life, shown right before the class at 7:30 in the Barn.

“Seeing” Through the Lens of Movement: Dance & Yoga

A movement-based workshop invoking yogic and dance practices to ask the following questions: How do we “see” with our body? What is the value of “seeing” with your body? and How does this lens of movement help us understand more deeply our own selves and the world around us?

Lauren Beale is a performing artist, contemplative teacher, yoga instructor and active mama. Currently a MFA in Dance candidate at CU-Boulder, Lauren has performed nationally and internationally with Colorado based companies Helander Dance Theater, 3rd Law Dance/Theatre, David Capps/Dances, Interweave Dance Theater, Kim Olson/Sweet Edge as well as NYC companies Curt Haworth and Dancers, Ellis Wood Dance and Peter Sciscioli. Lauren has co-created and collaborated with fellow artists Jessica Hendricks, Jimmy Lusero and Brooke Gessay and her solo, duet and evening length work has been presented in NYC, Colorado and Mexico. Lauren has helped develop dance curriculum for CU-Boulder and taught numerous yoga and movement based classes and workshops throughout the US.

Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga combines laughter exercises and yogic breathing to give you the health benefits of hearty laughter. Laughter exercises almost always lead to real laughter, especially when practiced in a group. I have been facilitating groups since 2005, LY is worldwide and practiced in many countries around the globe. Laughing for no reason seems a little outside the box….but it is so refreshing to let down the stresses of life. You will be sure to experience the simple joy of cleansing heart, lungs, and soul!

Ellen Brown has been teaching laughter yoga since 2005. She trained with Dr. Madan Katria, founder of the Laughter Yoga movement and now teaches others how to teach Laughter Yoga.

Back/Shoulder Relief: Thai Yoga Massage Workshop

Relax and ease tension in the areas of the body where muscle problems most often occur: back & shoulders. You will learn the assisted stretches of the joints and muscles, compression and movements that restore lost flexibility and bring the body back to balance. No need to bring a partner. Please bring a yoga mat, a blanket, and a pillow.
Yuki Tsuji- Hoening, E-RYT, LMT & RTT, has been an educator and teacher for the last 8 years and the founder and director of Karuna Health. She is a Boulder-based licensed Thai Yoga Massage therapist as well as certified AcroYoga teacher. She’s also a movement artist as AcroYoga performer & wall dancer for AscenDance Project. Moving Perspectives with FreeBird Dance & Yoga

This workshop integrates yoga, meditation, lecture and movement exercises into a unique, experiential opportunity.Material borrowed with permission from CU Religious studies Professor Sam Gill provides a rich backdrop as we adventure mentally and physically through his soon to be published book “Dancing Culture Religion.” Weaving this material (which engages insights from anthropology, philosophy, religious studies and neuroscience) with her own research and experience, Brooke will guide the journey.
Come wrestle & play in this multidimensional, interdisciplinary workshop, and move closer to the living flame of your own dancing vitality.
 

Brooke Gessay is a dancing-performing-teaching artist, yogini, and love of zen. She is joyfully committed to realizing and embodying the mystery, emptiness, and fullness of our nature as human beings. Her background and expertise span the disciplines of creative writing, dance, yoga, and arts education. Bows in the Barn- A Concert 
Psyche Cassandra Dunkhase & Rachel Sliker

Enjoy the taut and tender strings of cello & violin at an afternoon concert.
Psyche and Rachel will also be performing in the Exploratorium; both musicians are a part of the You & Me interactive performance, and Rachel will also be playing with the Language of Fish Collective Arts performances.
Psyche Cassandra Dunkhase is a dynamic, dedicated and accomplished cellist and cello teacher. With over ten years of experience performing and teaching, Ms. Dunkhase is committed to providing unique musical experiences that inspire creativity, nurture self-expression and spark imagination. Ms. Dunkhase is an avid performer of contemporary and experimental music. Widely recognized as a dynamic educator, Ms. Dunkhase has founded such programs as Zwischenspiel: Iowa Summer Music, Grammy Award-winning Iowa City High School’s chamber music program, and Starting Smart: Why Music Matters, an early childhood development initiative. In addition to her music education work, she performs regularly with ensembles including the Orelia String Quartet, as well as Denver-based art-rock band Princess Music.
Rachel Sliker is a registered Suzuki violin teacher, and has been teaching violin lessons in Boulder, CO since 2008. She currently plays with the Fort Collins Symphony and has played with several other orchestras along the front range including the Cheyenne Symphony, San Juan Symphony, Wyoming Symphony and the Steamboat Springs Orchestra. Currently, Rachel plays in the Orelia String Quartet, as well as the Denver based art-rock band, Princess Music.
